Pool Lighting Adds Ambiance to Your Swimming Pool Area

Have you considered what kind of lighting you’re going to have around — and in – your swimming pool? When you’re talking with your electrical contractor about the installation, you also want to discuss with him or her options for lighting you want to install. Pool lighting is not only important for safety, but it can add ambiance to your backyard swimming pool oasis area.

If for no other reason than for safety, you need to install lighting to illuminate the paths to and from the pool and lighting that is bright enough to light up all the depths of the pool. In addition to lights for safety, you can take your pool lighting to a new level and use it to add atmosphere.

The type of pool lighting you can install falls into three categories – all of which can be used separately or in conjunction with one another, they are:

  1. Underwater – not only handy to have when swimming after dark, but great for imbuing the pool with interesting nighttime light effects
  2. General – used to illuminate the pool deck and paths
  3. Accent lighting – add ambiance to both the pool and the surrounding area. Accent lights can be used to highlight trees, bushes or any other architectural feature you want to draw attention to in your back yard.

Consider where the electrical outlets will run when you’re thinking about your lighting options. Wireless, solar, and fiber optics are good options for illumination. Solar lights gather up energy from the sun and produce light at night; fiber optic lighting is popular because the lights don’t carry electrical current – the fibers of light move through cables – and this lighting offers a wide range of colors and styles.

What kind of atmosphere do you want to create with your lights? If you install a light type set up you can change the lighting ambiance with the flip of a few switches – from romantic evening to neighborhood pool party with the flip of a switch!
